Presentation of the Musée du Lac de Sanguinet

Located in the superb commune of Sanguinet, the Musée du Lac is a must-see during your stay in the Landes. It’s the ideal place for a cultural outing with your little vacationers. It proudly displays the results of 50 years of excavations at 5 archaeological sites, now submerged. Their presence underwater shows that the lake has been forming gradually over the past 3,000 years.

When you visit the museum, you’ll discover nearly 450 artefacts, bearing witness to human activity on the shores of Lake Cazaux Sanguinet for more than 2,000 years – amazing, isn’t it? To help you understand the whole story, the museum team presents a thematic tour focusing on “water, sand and man”. With your children, you can leaf through playful booklets and watch videos on the secrets of the lake’s formation, a much more fun way to learn.

On-site activities and exhibitions

The Musée du Lac de Sanguinet is full of surprises. Here you’ll discover an impressive collection of objects that have been brought to the surface over the years. In fact, among the 450 artifacts on display are pirogues, jewelry, pottery, furniture and various tools from underwater villages.

Don’t forget to stop by the museum store to stock up on souvenir gifts. It offers books, comics, games, knick-knacks and more for the whole family…

And that’s not all! Lac de Sanguinet is just 10 minutes from the museum. After your visit, let’s have some fun with the many activities on offer! Do you enjoy water sports? The choice is yours: traditional pirogue rides, canoeing, sailing, paddling, wakeboarding…

By bike, on foot or on horseback, a family outing is a must to explore the surrounding area and explore the magnificent trails around the lake. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in the legendary lush natural environment of the Landes region!
