Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this soul-filled site offers the ideal cultural getaway, combining nature, spirituality and discovery.
A must-see for history buffs of all ages.

The Priory of Mimizan: medieval origins
Founded in the XIᵉ century by the Benedictine monks of Saint-Sever Abbey, Mimizan priory stands as a precious witness to the religious past of the Landes region. At the time, it was a stopover on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, welcoming pilgrims, clerics and travelers in search of spirituality.
Situated between forest, ocean and marsh, it plays an active role in the region’s development, both spiritually and economically. The monks live according to the rule of Saint Benedict : prayer, work and silence punctuate their daily lives in an austere but structured environment.
Today, although the convent buildings have partly disappeared, the essential remains: the magnificently preserved bell tower-porch of the former church stands guard over the centuries.
The bell tower-porch: listed by UNESCO
A major vestige of the priory, the bell tower-porch dates from the XIIᵉ century. It is one of the rare examples of Romanesque art still visible in the Landes region. It is distinguished by its finely preserved biblical sculptures.
In 1998, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Pilgrim ‘s Way to Santiago de Compostela, underlining its spiritual and architectural importance. This silent monument speaks to visitors: it links faith, history and beauty in a single glance.
