Tourism in the Landes

When we think of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, and more specifically the Landes département, we think of ocean beaches, the Côte d’Argent and the Landes de Gascogne regional nature park. From our Landes campsite at Lac de Biscarrosse, you can visit the Landes region and its villages built between the coast and the great Landes lakes.

Visiting the Landes also means discovering its beaches, those long stretches of fine sand protected by dunes and pine forests. Renowned for their surf spots and the many competitions they host, they are also home to all kinds of board sports and water activities. Whether you like canoeing, sea kayaking or wave-skiing, in rivers, at sea or on lakes, whatever your paddle, you’ll find plenty to do during your vacation in the Landes… paddle! Among the real surfing paradises are the beaches ofHossegor and Biscarrosse, not far from our campsite. If you like long walks and unspoilt countryside, you’ll love the beaches of Seignosse (Bourdaines, Casernes), Contis and Lit-et-Mixe, as well as the opportunity to learn more about the famous Landes baïnes.

If you’re looking for a gentle getaway and want the freedom to visit the Landes region, the Landes region has it! Take a hike in the Landes de Gascogne regional nature park, among the peat bogs of theEtang Noir national nature reserve. Get on your bike and venture out on the safe cycle paths through the Landes forest and along the coast, such as the famous Vélodysée des Landes trails. Admire the grey cranes in the Arjuzanx national reserve and discover the region’s ecosystems in the Izadia ecological park. The Promenade Fleurie in Mimizan, near theEtang d’Aureilhan, offers you the chance to stroll through one of the most beautiful flowered sites in France. If you’re traveling to the Landes with children, take them to a theme park like Adrénaline Parc or Atlantic Park for an unforgettable family day out. Getting off the beaten track means getting out and about in the Landes! Fauna and flora, especially protected species, take center stage. You’ll be amazed!

In terms of culture, take the time to visit the churches and other monuments in the communes of the Pays de Born, such as Parentis-en-Born, Ychoux, Gastes and Sainte-Eulalie-en-Born. Several other seaside resorts and towns of character located further south also attract visitors for their authenticity and landscapes: Vieux Boucau, Capbreton, Seignosse, Soorts Hossegor, Moliets-et-Maa… Famous for its beaches and its unmistakable maritime pines, you can also discover another face of this region with the Chalosse, the Tursan vineyards or the Bas-Armagnac.
Marvel at Mont-de-Marsan’s Madeleine church and lose yourself in the aisles of Biscarrosse’s museum of traditions and history. Treat yourself to a detox cure in Dax, one of France’s most popular spas and home to several outstanding museums, including the Borda Museum and the Army Light Aviation and Helicopter Museum.
